Access Independence has recently undergone a major change to our Durable Medical Equipment and Assistive Technology Services which will now be provided through our new program, Access Equipment, which will make used equipment available for sale or rental for those in need.
As of Feb. 1, 2017 New England Assistive Technology (NEAT) is no longer associated with our organization, and we are no longer able to make Durable Medical Equipment available free of charge through our Loan Closet program. We are disappointed to no longer be able to offer these valuable services, but we have developed a new program to continue to make discounted equipment available to those in need.
Access Equipment is a new program offered through Access Independence that makes used durable medical equipment available to individuals with disabilities on a temporary or permanent basis through the sale or rental of used equipment. Rentals will be charged a weekly rate, and will require a deposit of the full sale value of the item by cash or check. Once the item is returned in its original condition the rental fees will be deducted from the deposit and the remainder returned. Access Equipment can accept any payment method including cash, check or credit card for the purchase of equipment, however rentals will require a cash or check deposit in order to avoid credit card fees.
Donations of gently used, undamaged equipment will be accepted at our Ferry Boulevard office by appointment only – these donations will be tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, and a receipt of the donation will be provided. Please note, per Internal Revenue Service rules we cannot assess a value of donated items; this is the responsibility of the donor. Unfortunately we are unable to pick up equipment donations, and cannot accept extra large items such as hospital beds, stair glides, etc.
Access Equipment sales, rentals and donations are all by appointment only. To make an appointment or for questions please contact us at 203-378-6977.
